MLH Announces Donation from Alterra Mountain Company
Community Foundation
for Access Apartments Project
Mammoth Lakes Housing, Inc. (MLH) is excited to announce that it received a $25,000 donation from the Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation. This donation will go towards their commercial to residential redevelopment project in Mammoth Lakes, Access Apartments. This is the biggest single contribution since the Town of Mammoth Lakes allocated $1.5M towards the project in July 2021 and comes as part of a fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 in private donations towards this critical housing project.
MLH purchased the property located at 238 Sierra Manor Road in 2017 through a partial land donation with the intent to convert the commercial buildings into eleven one-bedroom apartments. Since then, the nonprofit has held community workshops, hired an architecture firm, and applied for grants and building permits. The project is considered shovel-ready pending outstanding financing.
“It’s incredible to see the community coming together to help make this project possible. Local and private funds make our grant applications more competitive and demonstrate to the State and other partners that we are committed to achieving housing together,” expressed Patricia Robertson, Executive Director.
MLH has already raised more than 30% of their fundraising goal towards this project.
As the local nonprofit Community Housing Development Organization serving the Eastern Sierra, MLH hopes to replicate this small, infill affordable housing development model throughout the region to continue to address the housing needs of our communities one project at a time.
This donation from the Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation will support MLH’s efforts to create housing, which will alleviate overcrowding and provide affordable rents while also assisting local businesses attract and retain employees. MLH will apply for funds in upcoming grant cycles this spring to close the final financing gap on this project. Occupancy is anticipated in the summer of 2023.
