On Tuesday, January 14, 2014 the California State Department of Housing and Community Development announced The Town of Mammoth Lakes, The City of Bishop, and Mono County as recipients of $700,000 each in Home Investment Partnership (HOME) funds.
The three jurisdictions, in conjunction with Mammoth Lakes Housing, Inc., submitted grant applications in July 2013 for the First-Time Homebuyer Acquisition and Rehabilitation Program. According to Jennifer Halferty, Executive Director of Mammoth Lakes Housing, Inc.,
“These grant awards help ensure the availability of affordable workforce housing throughout the Eastern Sierra, which will strengthen the financial security of our neighbors and fellow citizens and will make this special region an even better place to live and work.”
Mammoth Lakes Housing, Inc. is currently accepting applications on behalf of Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, and Mono County for a waiting list of interested households. In the coming months, the respective jurisdictions will work with the State to execute grant contracts. Mammoth Lakes Housing, Inc. will then work to ensure the grant set-up conditions are met in order for the funds to be drawn for lending in the communities.
Approximately $11.2 million of HOME Program funds were available. The $2.1 million in HOME funds comes to the region from the United States Housing and Urban Development Department, via the State of California. For more information about the Program or questions on how to apply, visit the Mammoth Lakes Housing website at www.mammothlakeshousing.org or call 760-934-4740.
